Early Republic

Having adopted a form of government, the Americans had to make it work. This course examines their efforts to do so, as the Republic took shape amidst foreign dangers, political conflict, westward expansion and religious revivals.

Instructors: David Tucker is an Associate Professor of History at the Naval Postgraduate School. He has published on Thomas Jefferson, John Quincy Adams, and is the author of Skirmishes at the Edge of Empire, and co-editor of Statecraft and Power. Robert M.S. McDonald is Associate Professor of History at the United States Military Academy at West Point.
