American Statesmen: FDR & Lincoln

Even though the powers of the American Executive are controlled and limited, extraordinary acts of statesmanship are possible. This seminar examines two presidents who demonstrated extraordinary political leadership. We will examine these statesmen and the political circumstances in which their prudence revealed itself.

Instructors: Peter W. Schramm is Chair of the Master of American History and Government program and Professor of Political Science at Ashland University. Jean Edward Smith is John Marshall Professor of Political Science at Marshall University and author of numerous books, including Grant, and John Marshall: Definer of a Nation. His latest book is FDR.
