Having adopted a form of government, the Americans had to make it work. This course examines their efforts to do so, as the Republic took shape amidst foreign dangers, political conflict, westward expansion, and religious revivals.
Instructors: David Tucker is Associate Professor of Defense Analysis and Co-Director of the Center on Terrorism and Irregular Warfare at the Naval Postgraduate School. He has published on Thomas Jefferson, John Quincy Adams, and is the co-author of United States Special Operations Forces. Stephen Knott is Professor of Strategy at the U.S. Naval War College. He is the author of Alexander Hamilton and the Persistence of Myth; Secret and Sanctioned: Covert Operations and the American Presidency; and The Reagan Years.
